Hey hey all the party-vibers of Mauritius!!
Brace yourself for the ultimate weekend round up!! Even though the nights are getting chilly, we have some awesome events to put some heat back into your social life!!
FUNKY FRIDAY
During happy hour at LE SUFFREN HOTEL (at the Caudan Waterfront, Port Louis) Metropolis will be performing from 20h00 to 22h00. Sing along to songs by Tracy Chapman, Green Day, U2, Spin Doctors, Linkin Park, Coldplay, Guns N Roses, Oasis, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam… and many more, while sipping on a mega glass beer at a ridiculously low price…. Great start to the weekend (especially if you work in and around Port Louis)

Caudon
From there why not head up to N-GYONE, Grand Baie as they host the Cream Amnesia party (dress in white!). Here you can enjoy another happy hour but this one begins at the stroke of midnight with vodka & sambucca for only 50 rups. There will be two dancefloors which will play commercial, funky, elector, progressive, 80’s, RNB and house. It’s Rs200 to get in if you’re single or Rs250 per couple (so if you’re single bring another, team up and be prepared to mingle!). Oooooh and they are offering FREE gifts to the first 100 guest! Yeah Yeah I’m a sucker for free gifts and cheap drinks (can you tell!)

Find it down the road from Store 2000, next to Buddha Bar
Also on Friday, THE GODFATHER, Grand Baie presents a massive party as they bring out their new menu for their restaurant. From 19h30 you can enjoy the group Harmony, and later in the evening DJ KLOX will be spinning his tracks to ensure a good ol’ P-A-R-T-Y. Entrance is free for all those coming for dinner otherwise there’s a cover charge of Rs100 which gives you a free drink. Call 263 3000 to reserve a table for dinner.
SIZZLIN’ SATURDAY
Desi Fushion Nights wants you to come and party with them at TWENTY ONE 22 in Quatre Bornes. They are offering a mixture of the best Indian tracks mixed with R&B and hip-hop from the 80’s, 90’s and new millenium and happy hour lasts till 22h30. Indian mixed with R&B sounds pretty interesting!! So make your way there, tickets can be bought for this party through OTAYO at Rs150 or Rs200 at the door.
If Indian Rn’B ain’t your thing, KEOPS pub in Ebene, Rosehill is opening its doors to its official Winter Session party!! Yes to start off the chilly seasons they have DJ HENRY and DJ SKAZ playing over two dancefloors. Tickets are avaliable at the door, ladies Rs100 and men Rs200.
And finally….
We saw them 2 weeks ago at Beach House. A trilogy of DJs. Matsonic, Creamcracker, and last but not least, Dj End, showed us exactly how to shake our badonkadonks, so if you in Flic en Flac on Saturday, get your grooving ass to SHOUT NIGHT CLUB from 23h00 where Ill mo records will be doing their thing. Join the Usual Suspects as they spin a mixture of Deep/funk/Jazz/break/electro/house in the Dark room. Ooooooh!

With that its over and out. Yeah – Shake your ass, watch yourself….

Winter is time for vegging out in front of the TV wrapped in a duvet with a steaming cup of hot chocolate….
If you’re a PANSY ASS that is! But if you’re a hardcore mofo who grabs life by the gonads, if you floss with barbed wire and wipe your arse with stinging nettles, then I have just the thing for you: The Mauritius Ocean Classic.
The 2009 MOC is made up of two races:
Sporty’s Downwind Dash (02 July ) and
Mauritius Ocean Classic (04 July)
Sporty’s Downward Dash is what they call a “3-star” event, 3-star being fairly hardcore but with a soft side too. A bit like The Bride in Tarantino’s Kill Bill, if you will. This race may technically be a girl, but trust me, even if you shoot it in the head, bury it alive and throw 88 yakuza killers at it, it still won’t die. Yes, I’m still talking about surfskiing. But just in case you’re thinking “oh 3-stars, pshhh whatever” THIS is the kind of race we’re talking about:
The race website might describe race 1 as
A 15km downwind course from Tamassa Resort (at Bel Ombre) to Les Pavillons Resort (at Le Morne) offering the opportunity to test the ocean & enjoy the delights of the conditions Mauritius offers.
But don’t be fooled my friends. It’s gonna be kerazy.
If Sporty’s Downward Dash is too girly for you, if you sneeze with your eyes open and are the reason that Wally is hiding, then maybe you want to try Race 2, the main race: The Mauritian Ocean Classic.
This is the Big Deal. It’s over 28km’s from Souillac to Les Pavillions Resort at Le Morn and is apparently one of the best downwind courses in the World Series. If this doesn’t give you some idea of the badassedness of the race, lets call it the Samuel L Jackson of Surfskiing:
Get the message?
Oh it is ON! So if you’re that cool, register here today, and keep up to date on the event here.
See ya there,
xx Coco

Oh my…. can you handle this??
A few nights ago someone tried to break into the Mahèbourg Naval Museum. You know, just your average sword and map robbery, nothing spectacular. Unfortunately for him (but very fortunately for us my friends) he was disturbed mid-burgle. The Mauritian navy are clever fellows, and fully aware of how valuable pirate swords and maps are these days, had installed an alarm. Alarmed by this alarm the suspect ran out of the museum (he’d broken down the back door to get in – very macho). He then climbed a tree and tried to jump over a fence.
This is when our suspect started to have Bigger Problems. I’m not quite sure how to explain what happened after he lost his footing, I think it’s best to show you:

This guy must have felt like a bit of an arse...
I bet he’s the butt of many jokes.
Definitely the end to a promising car-rear.
Police are doing everything they can to get to the bottom of this.
Sorry. That was heinous.
Cheeky….
Feel free to submit your own captions! The winner MAY get a PRIZE!

Thanks to Yashvin for the story
Excercising can get lonely, so why not do it with your best friend? I found this little beauty
on YouTube:
Isn’t that Awesome?? Thank you Sara Ingosaki! Now I just need to motivate Morris:

Morris: not keen.
Oh well. At least that’s a fat-free yoghurt.
After that brief little break, where I was doing more working than vibing, we are finally back! I hope you used this round-up free weekend to recharge, because that “it’s winter” excuse just isn’t gonna fly son.

Ok so it's a little windy and overcast...toughen up.
Yes, conditions were no ideal at Le Prince Maurice on Friday, but the clouds soon started clearing…

And look at what we have today:

Winter shminter people, it’s good to be back.

Living in Mauritius can take its toll. It sneaks up on you… a cocktail here… a beer there… next thing you know, you have to put your belt on with a boomerang. But fear not Islandlings! I have a solution for you that is more fun than a clown on fire:
Belly Dancing!
You heard me. It’s time to get your jiggle on, shake those lady lumps baby! The classes are run by Anna Mercier, who promises to teach you “swaying hips, undulating torso, and curving patterns, undulation, thrusts, lifts, locks and drops and shaking or quaking body movements.”
oooooooh! Did you see that? Quaking body movements. What are you waiting for?

Now, obviously I can’t recommend something without trying it out, so last night we rounded up the girls and decided to give it a shot. The classes are held in Pereybere in this studio:

Like a dream...
If I were you, I would go just to see the studio – it’s amazing. There’s a fine line between cool kitsch and authentic kitsch and this place is so authentic, you can’t help but love it. From the green walls to the red velvet curtain with gold trim and bells, to the collection of plastic Buddhas and stuffed toys…. it left me speechless.

Magnifique!
The class itself was SO much fun, although we spent a lot of time in hysterics trying to copy Anna, as she did “le Chameau” or “The Camel.” I must say though, I was pretty darn impressed with how well we all did, by the end of we could have given Esmeralda a run for her gypsy money. We were also thrilled to learn that Anna will be incorporating Bollywood dancing into our lessons. YES! And, if we’re good enough by November, we get to be in a show!

This could be YOU
As far as a workout goes, Belly Dancing was great. As I type this, my arms and legs are aching and I can feel muscles in my stomach that I never knew existed. This, added the the amount of fun we had (a lot) puts Belly Dancing at the top of my list of great ways to work out in Mauritius. And if Belly Dancing isn’t your thing, Anna also offers Salsa, Rhumba, and Cha cha.

Belly Dancing people. You need it. Do it.
Xx Coco

When living on an island, you are literally surrounded by beaches. This means that often you are faced with the dilemma of which beach to go to. Well panic no longer my little islandlings, I have decided to take some time out of my busy schedule to help you, with this, the Mauritius Beach Guide. A tough article to research, but someone’s gotta do it.
To kick things off, I thought we could start with an old classic: Mon Choisy Public Beach. This magnificent beach is located on the northwest tip of Mauritius, just north of Trou-aux-Biches and is the longest beach on the island.

Mark Twain said: God created Mauritius and from it, he created paradise. The cowboy agrees.
Mon Choisy is also where we hold Super Sun-Days, a bit of a tradition here on the island where we spend the day of rest (and recovery) on the beach before we head to The Beach House to see the weekend off with a few toots.

The Crew
Nice hey? Let’s see how it does in the ranking.
Entertainment: 8/10, Good. Glass-bottom boats, tubing, water skiing and snorkeling are all available. Just mind you don’t get ripped off.
Water: 7/10. Also good. Calm, clear, blue. A bit sea-weedy if you’re going to be picky. No chance of surfing, you’ll want to go further south for that.
Sand: 7/10. White, coral based. Medium to fine grain. Some debris.
Shade: 9/10. One of the few beaches where you can rent an umbrella and lounger. Rs250 for a day, Rs100 for 2 hours.
Food: 8/10. Ice-cream vans tinkle in the background, and there are also roti and baguette stands.

Ahhhh...
Overall ranking: Coming in at an impressive 7.8 There’s little wonder why this beach is a favourite among both the tourists and the locals. It’s accessible and has pretty much everything you may need to kick it island style.
